The St. Lawrence College “Smartie” robot was recently demonstrated to students, parents, and teachers at the Frontenac Lennox and Addington Science Fair (FLASF) at Duncan McArthur Hall located on the West Campus of Queen’s University. The theme of this year’s FLASF was “Engineering”. Smartie was designed and constructed by professors and students of the Control Engineering Technology program at St. Lawrence College. Smartie uses its robot arm to automatically identify the colour of individual Smartie candies and separate them into different containers. Jason Murduck, Coordinator for the Control Engineering Technology program, was assisted by SEARC Principal Investigator Gordon McAlary in demonstrating Smartie and promoting SEARC research and development activities.
